The Biggest Little Ski Hill at Heavenly Holidays
Imagine yourself wearing shorts and a t-shirt, the warm September sun glistening on the tips of your skis as you carve out turns on an endless slope in downtown Reno…wait…what?!
Downtown Reno? September Sun? Snow Skiing?
What’s wrong with this picture?
Absolutely nothing. It’s brilliant. It’s innovative…It’s The Biggest Little Ski Hill!
The Biggest Little Ski Hill is a portable ski simulator that folds out to 31 feet long by 15 feet wide, has a sloped surface with revolving turf specially designed to give skiers and snowboarders the closest feeling you can get to sliding on the snow – no mountain, snow, or lift pass required! The mobile ski hill is the newest offering by local non-profit organization, Skiing is Believing, whose mission is to ease access to all sports, but primarily snow sports that tend to be more equipment-intensive and have a higher cost of entry than many other sports. A practice session on The Biggest Little Ski Hill includes the use of gear; helmets, boots, skis, boards, etc. and can be used for injury rehabilitation, to teach newcomers the basic skills to prepare them for the slopes, or to add that extra element of excitement to your next corporate event, school function, or birthday party.
Meghan Ochs, Founder and CEO of Skiing is Believing, is a competitive skier, fitness coach, entrepreneur, and community activist who believes that active, healthy, and engaged children develop into thriving, well intended, strong adults. Her programs promote healthy bodies, happy minds, and good hearts through sport and community service. Year-round youth camp schedules align with school district breaks and, in addition to exposing children to a wide variety of sports and activities, these interactive camps aim to build confidence and self-esteem, encourage perseverance and teamwork, and inspire volunteerism and community service.
In her effort to eliminate barriers to entry faced by underprivileged communities and people with adaptive needs, Meghan partners with organizations such as Veteran’s Guest House and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to offer scholarships and financial assistance to children who may not be able to attend camp otherwise.
Meghan’s favorite way to indulge her relentless servant heart is by hosting her annual fundraising birthday bash! While many look forward to what the gifts they will receive for their birthdays, Meghan gets giddy over how much she is able to GIVE for her birthday. Tickets to her birthday party are $45 and include dinner, drinks, raffle tickets, music, games, and the usual birthday party shenanigans but the kicker is that Meghan donates all proceeds to her favorite charities. Beneficiaries of her October 2019 Charity Birthday Bash will include Bear League, Canine Rehabilitation Center & Sanctuary (CRCS), Marce Herz Foundation, Mindful Health Initiative, Nevada Hands & Voices, Nevada Wildlife Alliance, Northern Nevada International Center, Ski Ducks, and Veterans Guest House.
With all she does to empower children and support the greater good in Northern Nevada, it’s no wonder why the Young Professionals Network of Reno-Tahoe recently recognized Meghan as a 2018 Top 20 under 40 Young Professional.
Your radiant bliss is contagious, Meghan! Keep up the great work!
