GET Started now!
By Jennifer Hendershott
It is never too late to get started. It doesn’t matter how old you are, where you live, or how much money you have, it is time to get started! Life is too short to not make positive life changes! I don’t personally do not understand how people can look in the mirror and be ok with what they see. Big bellies, double chins, big bags under your eyes, and flabby arms, I know you are not happy with that. When you see these things why don’t you stop and hit start! I tell people all the time I don’t care about the number on the scale, if you love yourself and if you’re a nice person. A number is a number and exercise is good for you, even if you are still a little big, that is better than doing nothing at all. On the other hand you might already be fit and look great, but your mind is saying something different. Maybe you’re not a nice person to others. I encourage people to find a balance.
I believe if you work out, and do the best you can every day to get started then that’s all you can do. An “A” for effort as a teacher would say. Spend less time criticizing yourself and more time on making yourself healthy. If you’re overweight and you’re trying, then you’re at least trying and your heart will be healthy. If you’re in shape but your self-esteem is still struggling then you need to understand that there is no such thing as perfect, you just have to do your best.
Here are some tips to help you avoid the scale, get started, and feel good about the person you are:
Put the scales away and measure your success by what you wear each day.
Build a progress scale on your refrigerator so you can mark all the things you do and how you feel about each of them each day. Include your exercise time, effort, and how you felt that day mentally about yourself.
Surround yourself with confident positive people to support you.
Get the basics- whole foods, clean and fresh! Buy a food scale and measuring cups. Get Tupperware so you can eat clean be organized and prepared.
Have a goal in mind and know that there is a light at the end of this .
Post positive sayings around your house so that when you look in a mirror you’re reminded of what you should be thinking.
Have positive motivational books by your treadmill or download on your iPOD so you can listen to these or read these when doing your cardiovascular workout.
I hope these simple tips can help you get started now. Believe you can do it, get up and do it, and know that you have one life to live and this is it, make it GREAT!
