Living the Wine Dream: The Bonitata Boutique

Written by Kristin CloseChristmas 1999, Lori Bonitata surprised her husband Mark with a dozen sovereign vines. Soon a dozen vines turned into 20 vines, 20 vines turned into 40 vines, and 40 vines turned into a vineyard.
Eventually, the Bonitatas relocated their backyard vineyard to the original Bernhard Winery founded in 1874, located at the Bernhard Museum in Auburn, Calif., adjacent to the Gold Country Fair Grounds. This historic building is made of stone with two-foot thick walls, which are partially buried into the hillside—the perfect storage for their handcrafted wines. The Bonitata Boutique is currently pouring a 2007 Barbera, a 2008 Cabernet Franc, and its special blend, M?stery Red. Upcoming new releases include an estate-grown 2009 Zinfandel, a Sierra Foothills 2009 Charbono, a 2009 Barbera, and a new white blend, called Duet.
Each wine at the Bonitata Boutique is handcrafted and barrel-aged then bottled. The Boutique’s grapes are handpicked from vineyards located in the Sierra Foothills. Timing must be spot-on at the Boutique. The grapes must be picked with the right balance of sugar, ph, and acid to produce a very special, mouth-watering wine.
The Bonitata Boutique donates their wine to local organizations and non-profit events.
In addition to their wine and donations, the Bonitata Boutique rents the winery for special occasions. It even offers a custom label, which includes a photos, artwork, business cards, or company logos on a bottle of wine. The possibilities are endless. Mark and Lori combine their award-winning wines with custom label designs to give personalized bottles for weddings, anniversaries, engagements, birthdays, and many more.
The Bonitata’s will continue to make wine with love and sell to wine-lovers - who have a great taste in wine - everywhere.
Let’s toast to the Bonitata’s for achieving their wine dreams!
