Written by Kate ThomasWe have all been there. Fifteen pounds too heavy to fit into that party dress you want to wear to an event in two weeks. Fifteen pounds too heavy to fit into that bikini you wore last summer. Fifteen pounds too heavy to wear that gorgeous lingerie set you want to surprise your partner with on your anniversary. It is never too late to make daily changes that will help you reach your goal weight and fast. You have the choice and the chance to make that change giving you what you deserve. Here are the top 10 ways to lose 15 pounds quick, compiled after speaking to physical therapists. You can look amazing in time for that special event.
Smaller portions equal a smaller waist.
Try eating six small portions a day as opposed to three big meals. In most cases, people eat more than their body requires. As a rule, your portion sizes should be the size of the palm of your hand and no bigger, no smaller. No smaller because you do not want to pass out or faint due to eating too small a portion. If you still feel hungry when you finish, drink a glass of water and wait half an hour. When your food actually settles in your stomach you will begin to feel comfortably satisfied.
Is that hunger or thirst calling?
Many times when people think they are hungry they are actually thirsty. Drink a glass of water and see if you are as hungry after. Chances are you won’t be. Make sure you drink up to eight glasses of water a day and accompany each meal with a glass of water. Add some Crystal Light or a slice of lemon to spice up your water.
Maintain Regular Bowel Movements
This is so important to your general health and helps with weight loss. You must try to go to the bathroom at least once a day. Technically, you should try and pass after every meal but once a day is good enough. To encourage bowel movements, eat a small portion of bran flakes for breakfast with raisins or another dried fruit, like apricots. This fiber-packed breakfast should help keep you regular and help to get rid of those persistent humps and bumps stuck your hips.
Don’t buy it, can’t eat it.
It may sound simple, but honestly, removing all temptation is so necessary to avoid those sugar-craving binges at 4 p.m., that crucial time of the day when you will either want to nap or eat. If that cookie dough mixture isn’t actually in the fridge you can only think about it instead of devouring it. Stock up on healthy snacks such as cranberries and almonds, rich in oils and vitamins to promote a healthy immune system and glowing skin.
As much as it would be great to lose 15 pounds without exercise, it will never happen. You should do a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise per day, everything from walking to a vigorous gym class. I recommend circuits: five minutes of cardio followed by five minutes of weights on a specific muscle group repeated for up to 45 minutes. The cardio gets your heart rate and metabolism up so that you burn tons of calories while you weight train. You will tone up and drop the pounds.
Eat after exercise and early
After you exercise, your metabolism is high, helping your body to digest food faster. Less food is converted into fat and is, instead, literally eaten up by your buzzing body. Try to eat after exercise and early, ideally before 5 p.m. This way food isn’t sitting in your stomach at night while you sleep. You will burn some of it off in the hours before bed, especially if you take an evening stroll.
Bikram Yoga is great to see the pounds sweat out of you and fast. By exercising in a hot room, you will sweat much more than usual, stimulating weight loss. Sign up for 20 days of classes. The time constraint will force you to go three or four times a week and you will see results fast.
No more carbs. Skip the salt.
You have heard it over and over: you need to cut the carbs and salt. Carbohydrates, such as pasta and bread, will bloat you, as will salt. If you cannot do without pasta or bread, at least choose the wheat/brown products of both. White pasta has had all the goodness bleached out of it whereas the wheat/brown products maintain some benefits to your health.
Aim to get eight hours of sleep a night to ensure your body functions better, you remain healthy and avoid getting sick. Your body needs time to recuperate, repair and rest everyday so that it is more regulated. Spray your bed covers with lavender to induce a peaceful night’s sleep.
Avoid alcohol and soda.
You need to cut all alcohol and soda from your diet. Alcohol will sit on your hips and soda will bloat you. Always opt for water and maybe treat yourself to a small glass of wine or a vodka and soda on the weekend.
There are the facts. Now go do it. Keep focused on your goals and you can achieve anything. Remember that change does not happen immediately, and some days you will feel like the hard work isn’t paying off. Just trust that it is and remember that each day you will feel better, making each day easier. Stay motivated, stay strong and get what you deserve.
